Lubrication Basics
Q.What do the API service categories on a bottle of oil mean?
A.These represent engine oil quality levels established by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Always make sure these specifications meet or exceed your engine manufacturer’s recommendations.

Q.What is the NLGI number?
A.The National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) uses a numbering system to rate the consistency of grease. Generally, the higher the number, the thicker the grease is. There are several key factors in determining the correct grease for a given application. Manufacturer’s recommendation, composition, compatibility and viscosity are key,  along with using the correct NLGI number.

Q.What is viscosity?
A.Viscosity is the measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow. The lower the viscosity the lower the resistance is.

Q.What does V.I. mean?
A.Viscosity Index is the point of change of viscosity of a lubricant with regard to temperature change.

Q.What types of base oils are your lubricants blended with?
A.There are three types of Hydrocarbon Base Stocks and they are list below in stability order:
    -Aromatics
    -Napthenics
    -Parafinics

Q.What kind of oils have high V.I.s and what kind of oils have low V.I.s?
A.Parafinics have high V.I.s and Napthenics have low V.I.s
