Choose Oil
Q.What
is the best choice for heating my home?
A.Oil is, by far, the best choice fuel to heat
your home. Besides being the most dependable,
reliable and efficient fuel, it is also the
safest choice.
Safety
Q.Why
can oil heat claim to be safer?
A.Oil heat is clearly safer. Especially when
compared to other fuels, such as natural gas and
propane, that pose a greater and less noticeable
threat of carbon monoxide poisoning or threat of
explosion upon leaking or malfunctioning
equipment.
Clean
Q.Is oil heat clean?
A.Yes; from the cost perspective, there is more
energy in a gallon of oil than in an equivalent
measure of natural gas or propane.
Economics
Q.Is oil heat economical?
A.Yes; A properly installed and maintained oil
furnace or boiler produces warm and comfortable
heat with no evidence of odor or soot.
Q.What is happening with fuel prices?
A.All energy prices have risen during the past
six years. Heating Oil about 53%, Natural Gas
about 110% and Propane about 90%.
Q.What is causing the increase in costs?
A.Heating Oil prices are influenced by (1) the
price of cruse oil - which can vary sharply due
to increasing demand from developing world
economies and the United States and the
resulting commodities market trade, (2) the
capacity of refineries to produce heating oil,
(3) the competing demand for other petroleum
products, (4) the severity of cold weather. With
extreme cold temperatures, the natural gas
utilities interrupt the service to large
industrial and commercial users. A very high
percentage of those companies placed on this
curtailment choose oil as their alternative fuel
source. This increase in demand can also cause a
temporary spike in heating oil prices.
Q.Are there simple solutions to rising home
energy costs?
A.Yes, there are.
-If you have a fireplace, keep the damper closed
tightly.
-Close heating vents in infrequently used rooms.
-Install a programmable thermostat.
-Caulk and install weather stripping around
windows and doors.
-Have an annual tune-up performed on your
heating equipment.
-Draw curtains and drapes.
-Set your thermostat lower.
-Change filters often on your heating equipment.
-Use ceiling fans to push warm air down.
