What is Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF)?
Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is a high-pure urea solution that chemically changes harmful nitrogen (NOx) from heavy-duty diesel vehicles into harmless nitrogen and water. DEF is a very pure, aqueous solution of urea which meets the automotive industry specification defined by ISO 22241.
DEF is contained in a separate tank and is injected into the exhaust system of the catalyst. It is neither a fuel nor a fuel additive. DEF works with the vehicle’s SCR technology, which has been chosen by almost all American Diesel Engine Manufacturers, to meet the new NOx emission standards.
How much DEF will I need?
Want to know how much diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) you need and what equipment is best for your needs? DEF consumption will be approximately 3% of your diesel fuel consumption (for every 100 gallons of diesel consumer you would need 2 gallons of DEF).
