Caterpillar Inc. announces that Cat diesel generator sets for North America, ranging from 11 kW to 600 kW, have been certified to meet all published editions of the International Building Code’s (IBC) seismic provisions. In addition, enclosed models of these same generator sets have received certification for compliance with 90 mph wind-load provisions.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is pleased to announce MaK and Cat power solutions are featured onboard the U.S.N.S. Howard O. Lorenzen, a T-AGM 25 Missile Range Instrumentation ship. The Lorenzen is powered by 4x MaK 12 M 32 C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) engines, delivering 5.5 megawatts of rated power each. The Lorenzen also has 1x Cat C32 diesel generator set onboard to provide emergency power. In addition to being the largest Cat engines ever installed on a United States governmental vessel, the MaK power solutions are also largest Cat engines ever delivered to any United States government or military branch.

Caterpillar Inc. today announces the availability of Cat C15 ACERT water-cooled manifold engines certified for hazardous location use. The C15, rated at 536 and 540 bhp (400 and 403 bkW) at 2,000 rpm, joins the already certified C7 ACERT, C9 ACERT and C32 ACERT engines with powers ranging from 205 to 1,110 bhp (153 and 828 bkW). This makes Caterpillar is the only engine manufacturer to offer a complete line-up of hazardous location engines certified to meet both National Electric Code (NEC) and ATEX requirements.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has been selected to provide three Cat C32 Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) Engines for the Showboat Branson Belle repower. Each C32 engine will provide 910 ekW at 1,800 rpm. The Showboat Branson Belle is a dinner cruise vessel, the largest of its kind to be built on a land-locked lake in the United States. Weighing in at over 1,100 tons (2.5 million pounds), the Showboat Branson Belle measures 278 feet long, and has a passenger capacity of 700. The Cat generator set solutions for the Showboat Branson Belle are slated for delivery in early 2012. The Belle is scheduled to be back in regular service cruising Table Rock Lake in Missouri in March 2012.

Caterpillar has announced it has retained the global maritime industry consulting firm Germanischer Lloyd (GL) to conduct Marine Service Assessment (MSA) Certifications for the worldwide marine Cat dealer network. The Cat dealer network consists of global locations that sell, service and support marine diesel engines and generator sets. Caterpillar will use the MSA as the basis of a high-level standard for assessing dealer performance and quality worldwide, with a certified result serving as the benchmark for superior service capabilities.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has been selected to provide four Cat® 3516C Diesel Electric Propulsion (DEP) generator sets for the SV-310 multi-purpose offshore construction and supply vessel (MPSV) for Harvey Gulf International. Each 3516C DEP generator set will provide 2250 ekw @ 1800 rpm of power. Incorporated into the engine design are CleanAIR aftertreatment solutions, enabling the vessel to qualify as United States EPA Tier 4 compliant in addition to meeting the EPA Tier 3 and IMO II regulations.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems has been selected to provide over one hundred engines and generator sets to BOURBON Offshore for anchor handling tug and supply vessels currently being constructed in China. 60x Cat 3516C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) engines will be packaged with Kato generators for twenty anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels with eighty-ton towing capability. BOURBON has also elected to order 80x 3512C DEP engines for twenty platform supply vessels (PSV). The engines and generator sets will be delivered over the course of the next two years, with construction occurring at the Sinopacific shipyard in China.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems is pleased to announce the development of the MaK M 46 DF, a new marine dual fuel engine platform for the commercial marine industry. The M 46 DF dual fuel engine boasts a power rating of 900 kW per cylinder at 500 and 514 rpm in diesel and gas modes, and is available in an in-line or vee configuration. The engine is currently being tested at Caterpillar’s medium-speed engine facility in Rostock, Germany. First engine deliveries are foreseen for 2014.

Caterpillar today introduced the Cat C175-16 marine propulsion engine at a size, power and rpm that will drive new more profitable vessel designs for all segments of the marine industry. The latest in a line of high performance engines designed to meet EPA Marine Tier 3 and IMO Tier II emissions requirements, the C175-16 is rated at 2001 – 2168 bkw @ 1600 rpm and 2239 bkW - 2550 bkW @ 1800 rpm. The new propulsion engine extends Caterpillar Marine’s high-speed engine power range beyond the company’s already industry-leading 3516C-HD engine.

Caterpillar today announced that it has been selected to power 16 offshore supply vessels for use in operation in the Brazilian offshore market. Caterpillar received orders requiring a total of 56 Cat and MaK Diesel Electric Propulsion Engine (DEP) generator sets for offshore supply vessel newbuilds. The vessels include four oil spill recovery vessels (OSRV) and 12 platform supply vessels (PSV).

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems was recently selected to provide 2x 6 M 25 C and 2x 9 M 25 C propulsion engines for an Ostensjo Rederi AS offshore supply newbuild. Each 6 M 25 C engine will provide 2000 kW @ 750 rpm. The 9 M 25 C will each provide 3000 kW @ 750 rpm of rated power. All engines feature a new innovative air injection system, designed to ensure load response remains in a low rpm range and are packaged with the Siemens BLUEDRIVE PlusC diesel electric propulsion systems. The vessel is slated to begin operations in fall 2013.
